absolutism

today on the second page of business times there was an article titled: MAS warns against spreading false information. really short article but it has clearly drawn the boundaries. well come to think of it, no they did not draw a boundary. it was basically painting with black ink using a big fat soaked brush.
and while doing my book review:
As a general principle, no matter how despotic and authoritarian a government may be, there must be a degree of social assent and feeling of participation or representation on the part of the ruled if the regime is to achieve any real stability. It is no doubt true that such councils of townspeople, like the corresponding councils in the agricultural villages, by mere fact of their existence acted as a check on absolutism ~ The Rise of the Merchant Class in Tokugawa Japan, Charles D. Sheldon
interesting interesting.
