fast food generation
so here i am at home, while trying to sort out my time table for next semester and finishing several holiday tasks that i gave myself, i am determined to catch up with precious family time. so here i am spending almost three quarters of my day for the past 2/3 days watching drama with my parents. i realise that we do really come from different generations.
for me to sit down for 2 whole days watching drama was exhausting (and i thought i had the stamina for these sort of things) considering the fact that i can simultaneously watch 2 shows, chat on msn, cut my nails and watch the tv at the same time :p i have no idea why watching the drama with my parents can be so excruciating. so i decided to focus on the show and erm enjoy.
i shall blame it on the fact that i am from the FAST food generation. i can watch ellen degeneres, csi, heroes and party planner with david tunterra on cable simultaneously and not feel that i miss anything. i fast forward through most of the dramas and anime that i watch. side quests in rpg games does not interest me. while my parents enjoy every conversation and scene of the show. never did they think of pressing the fast forward button, but they press the rewind button a few times to recapture important parts. so i got use to their pace and found a way to adapt. instead of watching it with them all the time a take random breaks to do my own stuff and when i return to the living room i can still pick up the story from there.
i use to be a speed reader. i ‘browse’ through the entire book to know the story line and later return to it to read it slowly. my mom says that i am wasting precious time. why can’t i just read it through properly once - because i want to know the story. in a way, when reading it through the book a second time round, i find it exciting finding things i did not see the first time - self entertain i call it :) but now i read things slow so that i will not misread the book by missing out important parts of the story. that does not however stop me from re-reading books i like.
how i wish i could move through everything in fast motion as there are times when it is alright not to take everything along with you (things you have, leave too) but when you think it through: maybe my modus operandi is all wrong - zooming pass things that i need to pay more attention and stayed too long on things that i should not have.
should i let it reveal itself through time yet again?
